As our spring session of icon painting ends, our thoughts turn to summer and the song refrain, “Summertime, and the living is easy….” Let’s enjoy the ease of summer days by setting aside some quiet time to paint icons, either learning from the beginning or finishing unfinished projects.
Some of us (including me!) are ready for a short break from the intense work of project classes — or we’re looking for a little open time to bring projects to completion. So with that in mind, our summer classes for our intermediate-level icon painters will be Summer Independent Study with Critiques on Tuesdays, beginning June 7 and ending August 23.
This will be a time for experienced iconographers to complete unfinished icons or begin independent study on a new project, with the weekly opportunity on Tuesdays (2:00 pm or 7:00 pm Central Time) for individual feedback and direction. The beauty of these critique sessions is that everyone gets individual support for their on-going work. Everyone also benefits from the various tips and instructions given to the other students. Finally, everyone gets the on-going, mutual support of an active community of iconographers from all parts of the USA and around the world. These Tuesday sessions have been a blessing for all of us!
For new students interested in beginning icon-painting instruction this summer, we have an Introduction to Paint Mixing & Pigments class on June 2-4, followed by a nine-week Saturday series for beginners to paint The Archangel Gabriel, June 18 – August 13. These classes are designed for both brand new students and for those who have taken previous icon-painting workshops but never successfully completed an icon on their own. We focus on developing the basic skills needed to paint icons in these classes. We have received very positive feedback on them, from both new students and experienced painters. Come and join us, and experience the joys of this sacred art form!
