I have gained so much confidence in writing icons through Faye’s zoom classes.I enjoy the study Faye does of the life of the saint. Faye, you are a wonderful teacher and it is evident you love what you do. The clarity of your instructions and photos of the process on icon writing enriches mind, body and soul. I learn from others who participate in Faye’s online classes including the critique classes. I am blessed to see a facet of the beauty and mystery of God’s truth and love in the expression of fellow students' icons. Thank you, Faye, for helping me to grow spiritually through the joy of your gift of teaching.

Faye’s Zoom classes provide the experience of an in-person iconography workshop with the convenience of virtual learning. Faye is an organized, engaging, and effective teacher with the ability to make iconography attainable for students at all levels. The materials and video recordings you will receive in connection with the classes are worth more than the cost of the class.

Faye Drobnic is a natural born teacher, and her knowledge and practice of iconography is extensive. I highly recommend her live Zoom classes for anyone who is serious about learning to paint an icon. In addition to participation in the live course, students receive detailed text instructions and beautiful process photographs. Students also have access to the videos of the live classes for an extended time. The community of painters that Faye has gathered is joyful and welcoming to everyone.

Am enjoying the paint mixing class hugely—thank you!

I very much enjoyed your class! And I learned so much more than I thought would be covered…. Please send me an invoice for the Beginners class.

-Cynthia M., Colorado

I’m really enjoying my St. Francis class. I appreciate your putting this class together. I can tell how much time and effort you have put into it. You did a fantastic job.

As an Orthodox Christian, iconography is not merely an art form for me; it's a profound means of reflection and prayerful gratitude. Under the guidance of Faye Drobnic, this sacred journey has been deeply enriched.  Faye's exceptional talent as an instructor shines through her meticulous organization of methods and techniques, ensuring that each student receives a comprehensive understanding of the craft. What sets Faye apart is her emphasis on 'reading' the Byzantine language of icons, transcending mere brushstrokes to delve into the spiritual significance behind each symbol and motif. Her insightful critiques and personalized coaching meet us at our individual levels of understanding and capability, fostering a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported. Moreover, Faye's commitment to building a community of learners extends beyond the confines of the studio walls. Through her online critique classes, she not only provides invaluable personal feedback but also cultivates a collaborative learning environment where students can grow together in technique, comprehension, and spiritual insight. I am deeply grateful for Faye's guidance and mentorship, which have not only established my artistic skills but also enriched my spiritual journey through the profound practice of writing icons.  We start with prayer. We end with thanks.

Faye’s Paint Mixing Class is a concise introduction into the history of egg tempera as it applies to iconography and the methods of paint mixing and application used by the Prosopon School of Iconology. It is an essential course for students interested in pursuing this contemplative, religious artform. The Pigment Study class is an overview of the pigments most often used by icon painters, and in a very short time it imparts knowledge about the physical natures of the pigments that might only otherwise be gained through years of experience. Together, these courses give the student a solid foundation for beginning what might otherwise be an overwhelming, and confusing barrier to the study of this beautiful artform. Faye’s style of teaching is gentle and encouraging, yet she speaks with the confident authority of one who has mastered her craft.

I began to study iconography about 6 years ago. As a beginner, I struggled to understand the multistep process; producing an icon was a painful, arduous task. During my first years of study, I was often frustrated and confused. However, my passionate desire to continue iconography never waned, and soon I was introduced to Faye Drobnic. During my initial classes with her, I asked many questions. Session after session, Faye answered every inquiry. Neither of us gave up! And now, I can sincerely say that writing an icon is a joy for me. It has become a sweet meditation and a beautiful spiritual practice. My appreciation for Faye’s clear instruction, patience, and devotion to iconography goes without saying, and I remain perpetually grateful to her."

I would recommend this Paint Mixing Class to anyone interested in iconography, both new beginners and advanced practitioners in need of a refresher course. I had been away from my pigments for years, and your class reignited the flame of my calling and passion for iconography. For this I am very grateful to you!

-Isabelle L., New Mexico

Thank you for that first course. It was easy to follow along, and it was really interesting and enjoyable. I am looking forward to painting the Archangel Gabriel with you soon.

I am enjoying your class and am so grateful for the opportunity to learn through your online format. I especially appreciate being able to review the videos (many times!) to practice paint mixing, loading the brush, and developing the nuances of handling the brushes and paint. Thanks for your excellent instruction.

-Teresa H., Virginia

I must tell you that I have learned more about mixing paint in the three sessions with you than I ever learned in the past. No one really taught me how to do it. I’m just a pretty good observer and had lots of trial and error. It makes it so easy when you count your egg and water. Of course, I have a lot of experience so I can usually do ok, but I waste a lot of pigment getting things right. Your way makes so much sense. Thank you!

-Victoria R., Texas

I finally finished my St. Michael. Working from your recordings of the classes was wonderful, and I learned so much—thank you! It was a privilege to learn from you, and I look forward to taking more classes in the future. Lord willing, I hope to write many more egg tempera icons! You certainly have opened a vivid and rich world for me with egg tempera, so thank you for that as well!

The online Beginner Classes with St. Elizabeth Icon Studio are professional, prayerful, and so enjoyable!! The Critique Classes are a wellspring of knowledge not only from experienced instructor Faye Drobnic but from students of all levels from all over the map. Being able to learn the Prosopon techniques at home through this studio has been a truly excellent experience.

-Michelle B., Pennsylvania

I will admit I was a bit suspect in taking an art class via Zoom. I have taken other academic classes via Zoom but I just didn’t think something like teaching art via Zoom could be effective or even possible. All I can say is WOW! You are an AMAZING and gifted teacher. Truly. I thought today was most excellent. I think I am so incredibly fortunate to have found you and your studio. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say tomorrow.

-Patty U., Wisconsin

I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for your instruction. I thought about doing this on my own, but I am so grateful I decided to get your professional help. I have wanted to do egg tempera for as long as I have been writing icons, but I thought acrylic was easier and I just didn’t have the confidence to do what I really wanted. And you’re right…Thank God He, and you, are giving me what I need to do this for His Glory.

-Linda F., Texas

Thanks to your teaching style and method, I have been able to learn more about icon writing in the past three years. Your instructions, both written and verbal, are very detailed. I like that you take us through your thought processes. I have improved my work because of all that I have learned from you. Thank you for teaching online.

-Pinky R., Phillipines

I love taking classes from Faye. I have learned so much. She is an excellent instructor who is patient and encouraging, especially for beginners like me. It is well worth your time to study with Faye. I wish I had started learning about icons a long time ago. Also, I am very grateful for the spiritual aspect iconography brings to my heart and soul.

-Barbara S., Texas

I appreciate your help in getting me started again. At first I wasn’t sure I could do it because it has been 5 years since I attended a workshop. I was spoiled with 12 years of study with Dmitri and Vladislav; they always knew how to correct my mistakes. I like the Critique Classes to help solve problems that I cannot do alone. I have been working on a claybord using the materials that you so generously shared with me. I’m so thankful for that. It gives me courage to continue. I will be 89 in May….

-Joyce T., Vermont

I want to thank you for a wonderful class. I have waited a long time to find this information. You are the answer to my prayer! The handouts are so informative, and you presented the material in an easy-to-follow manner. I have been happily mixing up colors to paint on the reference sheets.

-Valerie W., Florida

Faye has a generous heart for sharing her knowledge and work. She is open for students to explore and ready to help them progress along their path instead of imposing herself or her vision.  She ultimately perceives each person as an individual pilgrim and encourages and takes joy in each unique expression while maintaining the holy purpose of an icon. Thank you, Faye!
